The Blue Dolphins and the Pink Panthers - Day 1

The rain came crashing down as we left Wyvern. I got absolute drenched locking the gate behind us; but that didn't stop me from snoozing all the way to Gatwick! Upon arrival, we distributed items, made our way through security checks and treated ourselves to a nice breakfast. Some had nachos, some had bacon butties, some had a hotdog and Nutella milkshake!! When on holiday..?!

We made our way onto the flight, found our seats and again, I managed to snooze for at least half the way! On the other side we were met with a wave of heat: like when you open the oven to check on something. But it wouldn't go away. All day!! Marrakech Airport is stunning. Must be said. Great job architects.

We were met by our guides Hussein and Mustafa for the Blue Dolphins, Mohammed and Hassan for the Pink Panthers. We were welcomed to Morocco and told what we would be doing for the rest of the day. We boarded buses and made our way to Hotel Islane where we checked in and dropped off our luggage. Lunch was a short walk away at local restaurant. We ate salad, olives and were served our first tagine: meatballs and eggs  in a rich tomato sauce. It was delicious!!

Following lunch we were taken on a guided tour of Morocco. What a tour! This place is a maze - we visited a palace where the prime minister used to stay, walked through the markets and visited what I could only call an apothecary! Alternative medicines, herbs and spices filled glass containers which lined the shelves, encircling the entire room. We learned about the benefits of Argan Oil and got to try some of the products. A few brave souls even had a quick 5 minute neck massage!

We headed back to the same restaurant for supper, except this time, we were on the roof terrace - Moroccan soup, dates and lemon, chicken and beef kebabs. Food is the best. Afterwards we visited the chaos that is the Moroccan night market: open until past midnight! It was a real eye opener; performers lined the square, stall holders literally fought to try and get our business. What an experience.

We're now back at the hotel, drinking a well earned Coke or two as I write away.

I've taken and will take lots and lots of pictures. What an amazing country. Can't wait for more. Speak soon!
